It reminds me of the Civil War era in the US, or the WW2 era, while goverment bonds was monetized by the printing press to keep yields artificially low. Of course the result was a long 40 year bear market in government bonds.

I think the critism towards Brown is unjustified. There is no alternative to pursue prudent monetary policies. I just don't see how that would work out.

The only alternative is what is beeing choosed, and that is to opt for a sluggish and inflationary crack up boom. That will be the outcome for both the US and UK.
It's the only way to avoid the debt liquidation phase in the kondratieff winter.
