For once I can answer with 100% accuracy: February 20, 2009, gold went through the $1000 barrier. Also occurred in March 2008.

When it does finally jump, it could jump like a scalded cat.

The same naked short selling that us tin-foil-hatters constantly blame for suppressing the price of gold could (if it really exists) result in a monster short squeeze once "they" (goldman sachs, jpmorgan, ...?) lose control. They'd have to buy gold at exhorbitant prices to cover.

Unfortunately, that would increase the chance that "they" resort to "unconventional" means, such as some sort of sudden, painful, messing with the rules or markets that would cost gold owners (such as many iTulipers) their profits.

If such a dramatic jump in gold price volatility occurs, I'd imagine that there's a good chance it would occur near when COMEX long futures close, on the third to the last trading day of June and December, for delivery on the last business day of the month. If someone (with alot of money) wanted to create an uproar, they could buy a big pile of GOLD futures, and then demand delivery of the actual gold on that date. If COMEX couldn't deliver, it could be a jolly good show to watch.

agreed - there is a good chance that what you state may very well unfold - but like the chinese (I think) - I hope the day of reckoning is still many years off or else we go into a more gentle decline over many decades.

The argument (on May 28th) from this technicians point of view is: Gold is in a perfect time window for a correction down to about $900.00 - possibly $880.00.

There is also an important time window for a very important low in late June. Should it bottom there and turn up for another run back up to the highs it will at that point most likely break thru the "Magic Mega" $1,000.00 mark.

IF it happens in said manner, I (as in me - not Lorusso) would expect it to run up to about $1,190.00 in very short order, and possibly to $1,320.00 before it has any real pullback. (Hope I don't have to eat those words!)
