Re: U.S. Inflation to Approach Zimbabwe Level, Faber Says

So the article quotes estimates for inflation by various "experts" that range from negative .4% to 230,000,000%.

Very helpful. Happy to see such concensus of thought.

      From the article:

“I am 100 percent sure that the U.S. will go into hyperinflation,” Faber said. “The problem with government debt growing so much is that when the time will come and the Fed should increase interest rates, they will be very reluctant to do so and so inflation will start to accelerate.”

This is the first time I have heard Faber say this (not just inflation but hyper)

      This is significant, IMO.

For me it's significant that he can't see any possible reason why it won't happen, which brings out the contrarian in me. Either he's a poor statistician or he lacks imagination in my opinion.

It can be downright exhausting at times trying to decipher all the hedging that takes place in the comments of typical economists. I find the occasional "100 percent sure" declaration refreshing.

I still have a hard time with the hyperinflation scenario for the USD.

I certainly buy into the high inflation thesis, but I find hyperinflation difficult to envision due to the support from several and significant political systems for the USD (ex: China, Japan, Saudi Arabia etc. etc.).

iTulip had a thread going a year ago after John Williams declared hyperinflation inevitable. Anybody know if Williams has had more to say about this in the last year? Some say he lurks here...

I saw the actual interview with Bernie ?? last night. Faber seemed almost giddy and seemed to be almost constantly chuckling ... and mentioned several times his appreciation for attractive women. His flip demeanor made me temper his comments on hyperinflation. When Bernie asked him if it would be as bad as zimb, he said no, but close, whatever that means.

                the video is on www.bloomberg.com

Thanks, context is always helpful.;) Still, there are only a handful I wouldn't scoff at when they say anything is "100%" (EJ is another one)

                        Thanks for embedding MM.

However, I do not agree with your comment.

yeah I really like faber too, so his comment is bloody scary to me.

p.s how the hell do you embed?

In Utube, there is a gray box next to the clip. See that?

Then, there is most of the time a "URL" line and an "Embed" line.

Simply click on the white box of Embed and "copy and paste the code directly in your iTulip message...and voila!

Was Metalman being sarcastic maybe? He forgot to put the scarcasm icon in there so that the remark would be intelligible. (Sarcasm icon looks like this: :rolleyes. Marc Faber's "cred" is less disputed than that of many others.

For best practices, Metalman should consider being more explicit when he's telling a joke. It should have a standardized explanatory footnote at the end every time there's a joke, which says [THIS IS A JOKE].

Then it would be clearer. Like those cat's eyes they put on the asphalt to tell you where to drive?

I trust Faber. The only thing that disturbs me is that Faber's suggestion here begins to meet Gerald Celente, out there in the twilight zone. The fact their suggestions begin to overlap is what makes me get a cold sweat.
