  • Matt Trivisonno's blog: a perpetually updating Withholding Taxes Chart

    http://www.trivisonno.com/withholding-taxes-chart

Each business day, the United States Treasury Department publishes a report on the workings of the government’s income and spending. One of the items on this report is the “Withheld Income and Employment Taxes.” (Here in the USA, workers have taxes automatically deducted from each paycheck.) This project charts this data.

Note: 2Q09 is calculated with the first 37 data points of 2Q09 and 2Q08. This
number will bounce around less as we move through the quarter. See the spreadsheet below to follow the calculation day-by-day. The last bar on the right is 2Q09

Matt includes a link that allows people to spot check the data as well as Q2 2009 spreadsheet.

Current through the Daily Treasury Statement dated July 13, 2009.

Note: 3Q09 is calculated with the first 9 data points of 3Q09 and 3Q08. This
number will bounce around less as we move through the quarter. See the spreadsheet below to follow the calculation day-by-day. The last bar on the right is 3Q09

Note: 2009 is a year-to-date comparision between the first 134 data points of 2009 and 2008.

          *sigh*

Monthly ones, with annual & bi-annual change rate ones have been at Witholding & income tax receipts for well over a month, and on my site for far longer than that.

There appears to be some problem with the first graph... the x-axis tick marks are all at 1Q of each year, except for FY09 which says 2Q... what's up with that?

The trend is pretty telling regardless, I think I'll go check out Bart's version.

              Bart,

Your charts are great to understand long term context. I revisit them once a week. MT chart is more like a daily fix to monitor the coming US Gov balance of payments problem.

Poor Bart. Nobody loves him. NOT.

Is it possible some of the revenue drop is due to the jiggering of withholding tables that has been done. Wait till next April when people don't get the refunds they are used to.

Matt will have to get used to it.
