  • New $1 Coin

I have a small hunch that maybe the introduction of the new $1 coin is in preparation of a new round of inflation. Currently, two quarters buys me a can of Diet Coke in the office soda machine. Could it be that far off in the future that a can of Diet Coke costs me one $1 coin?
I find it also interesting that the media is now posting surveys about elimination of the paper dollar (example on MSNBC: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17104542/).
Could the new $1 coins, become the future quarters in our pockets?
It would think that if there was going to be a major inflation heading our way, small value purchases would still require coinage (vending machines, parking meters, etc); however the coinage would need to be available in increasing amounts for convenience. Eventually, the paper dollar will be eliminated and large purchases will require $5 paper bills.
    What do you guys think?
