I'm dragging my ass through this humanities class, listening to this PhD moron justify every imperialistic war we've been in. This jackass personifies everything I dislike about acadamia.

Then get out. If you can't be open-minded enough to consider the possibility that some "imperialistic war" may be justified, then maybe you shouldn't be at a university.

And simply reacting with hostility against the history of your nation or culture doesn't prove you're open-minded. It's not even outrageous anymore.

If anything, after 40 years of being intellectually fashionable, it's tired and worn.

Of course some "imperialistic war(s)" are justified. For example:

• the "coalition of willing" in 19 century invaded China (yes, almost identical group group of western powers invading Iraq today: UK, US, Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Portrugal, and Austria. History does rhyme!). Their heroic action liberated the Chinese from their emperor dictatorship, and opened up the "free trade" of opium from the British into China, to negate the huge surplus the Chinese were running by selling tea to the west. The nowaday Chinese are ever thankful for the liberation, even though ten of millions people died and hundreds of millions of ounces of silver were paid to the western powers. Well, I suppose you don't get something for nothing. That is the price to pay for "freedom and democracy". Right? :rolleyes:
• if the colonists did not kill off the indians, how could we have the great countries like US, and Canada? Too bad, there were always collateral damages in any revolution or civilization building. People just need to get over it.
• if the black slaveries were not brought to the "new land", there will not be this Obama, the greatest president of the US. And the US history book will sorely miss a colorful page.

Guys, if you could not get into an imperialism mindset, you just aren't gonna to build an empire. Simple!

Imperialists come and go. Empires rise and fall. Oh, I am wondering how come the Chinese is the only surviving ancient civilization? Does it has something to do with the fact that they had never been smart enough to build an empire, despite they were technologically and economically superior to the rest of the world in most of their history?
