Busy trying to figure out how to invest in markets now that there aren't any markets. Take housing:

95% of all mortgages taken out over the past six months depended on government financing.

Corp. cash flows and profits to make payroll?

What do businesses do when they don't make profits? They lay off workers.

What does the government do? It tries to re-start the FIRE Economy and leaves the Productive Economy to die.

Corp. bond yields rise

All government resources to toward lowering mortgage rates. The effort pushes inflation up and Treasury bonds prices down.

No economic "green shoots" but green shoots of inflation:

Get in line. If this equity market has indeed seen it's bottom, I think it will be more a statement of our outlook than anything else.

NOTE: The corporate profits chart will reverse some what as they have changed the accounting rules on 'mark to market'. If that's correct or not !

However the cant manipulate the unemployment rate ! Keep an eye on that !

It may help to observe that mark to market was implemented just shortly before the markets topped in 2007... and then were "canceled" in early March 2009.

icm63, my understanding is that they can manipulate the unemployment rate. Am I missing something here?

For example, they can as you are surely aware:

a) Remove discouraged job seekers from the "unemployed"

b) Count temp. employees in desire of full-time work as "fully employed"

c) Bart can find a dozen more reasons I am sure without blinking...

Perhaps, you are referring to shadowstats unemployment data?
