  • Corporations are buying own shares ?

    Regarding M$

"The board also authorized the company to buy back $40 billion of its own stock in the next five years"

My company (where I work, wordwide IT company) has started to buy its shares since begining of May. (now the price is less than 1/3 of the peak in 2006)

M$ has the cash - and since Windows/Office sales are way down, needs the fewer shares available to make future earnings look better.

But any other companies who try this and don't have tons of existing cash and huge positive cash flow are going to be sorry.

What does it say when the only new buisiness opportunity you can find is to spend your $40 Billion hoard on buying your own stock vs. new investments.

(what ever it is, it's loud and clear)
