Wal-Mart Canada building $115-million food distribution centre near Calgary
MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Wal-Mart Canada said Friday it will invest $115 million to build a 400,000-square-foot grocery distribution centre in Balzac, Alberta, north of Calgary.
Described as one of the largest refrigerated buildings in Canada, the centre will be a hub for distribution of fresh food to Wal-Mart stores in Western Canada. It is expected to generate 800 construction jobs, and then 600 jobs when it is fully operational in late 2010.
The move comes as the world's largest retailer, which employs 80,000 people in Canada, expands its Super centre format, adding a complete range of groceries to its general merchandise selection...
