  • Russia kicks out Canadian diplomats

Russia and NATO have been like Oil and Fire since the war in Georgia during the summer of 2008.

Hopefully this will never be more than "talk talk", since I sincerely believe that Russia and NATO members have much more pressing issues (hint: worldwide economic collapse and risks of hyper-inflationary depression).

Unfortunately the military-industrial-complex may not agree with my views.

MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russia revoked the diplomatic accreditation Wednesday of two Canadians who worked at the NATO Information Office in Moscow, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov postponed a trip to Brussels because of the NATO exercises.

It comes after Belgium revoked the diplomatic accreditation of two Russian representatives at NATO headquarters last week. The Belgian Foreign Ministry accused the two Russians of spying activities incompatible with their diplomatic status, Russia's Interfax news agency reported.

In MY opinion, we should have pulled out of NATO in 1993 or therabouts.

In 1948 Stalin overthrew the elected government of Czechoslovakia and installed a Communist Puppet dictatorship. Not only were the French and British frightened out of their wits, but Tito in Yugoslavia as well. (Proving that the concept of seamless, multinational communism was so much BS, and the "domino theory" with it.)
So the West Europeans met at Brussels in a hurry lest the Big Red Bear swallow them all. The Foreign Secretary of Great Britain, Mr. Ernest Bevin, stood up and said, "We need a treaty that will accomplish three things: bring the Americans in, keep the Russians out, and hold the Germans down". And thus the North Atlantic Treaty was born in early 1949.

It worked very well and kept the Cold War from turning red hot for fifty years. BUT, not only did the Red Army pull out of Central Europe, but the Soviet Union ceased to exist! So what the hell is NATO for now? Seems like another way to drag the United States into hostilities in order to pull someone else's chesnuts out of the fire. And both Clinton and "W" have pursued a highly provacative course with Russia to NO ONES benefit - except the very people Eisenhower warned us about (follow the money).

There is no compelling reason for the United States to be a member of NATO.

I think you have it 180 degrees from reality. NATO is the extension of US military politics into western allies, based on the mutual protection clause. After the fall of the SSSR, a large incentive for non-US members to be in NATO disappeared.

          Hello, Frank:

I gave a history lesson and laid out reasons why we should not be involved in NATO since the threat which it was created to counter no longer exists. Of course I have it 180 degrees from reality - reality is Military-Industrial Complex, American Empire, corrupt American government run by the dual-party system (RepubliCrats), etc.
I don't like the present reality of NATO and a lot of other policies of the United States.

The Bear is pissed and is NOT going to lay low. I suspect that a hell of a lot is going on below the "radar".

I agree with the previous opinion that US should just butt out and build better relations. However dwindling resources have caused the US elite to think that an aggressive foreign policy is the way to go.

Yehh, its the way to go ...... to war over driving big cars :-(

Maybe they can stop talking and send a good shrink to the tie chewing president.

                Russia’s ‘advice’: See the doctor

The Kremlin is advising Saakashvili to “consult a doctor” in view of his accusations against Russia, Interfax reports.
