  • Ya it's Infrastructure ...

On the Mark Levin show today I heard straight from Robert Reich (ex Clintonite and advisor to Obama team) about how we should spend infrastructure money ( see also http://michellemalkin.com/2009/01/22...e-contractors/). So sorry for any of you white construction workers that voted for Obama. But hey we need to build this infrastructure fast, use the hard core unemployed (excluding you white guys), minorities and women, .

I can easily sign off on the concept of spending vast sums of money where we get real items like Hoover dam, better energy, etc infrastructure. But I don't see the Obama (aka Clinton retread team) giving us a real bang for the buck (or maybe it is a bang we get??).

OK, I an not giving Obama any break, but why does he deserve one when we can see where this train is headed early on. I fear we will not see the infrastructure work called for by the iTulip plan. Oh and PS I am totally torqued R Reich can call out a specific race and say we don't need to help them. Yes sir separate lines in the soup kitchen now.

Really sounds like he's trying to exclude white men.
    Dr. Reich:
I’d suggest that all contracts entered into with stimulus funds require contractors to provide at least 20 percent of jobs to the long-term unemployed and to people with incomes at or below 200 percent of the federal poverty level. And at least 2 percent of project funds should be allocated to such training. In addition, advantage should be taken of buildings trades apprenticeships — wich must be fully available to women and minorities.

Nope, it sounds like political theater to me.

Got your hip boots? I don't doubt that Reich said it, by the way.

Here's how it went last time. Different players today.

White guys run this country - just look at who surrounded Obama when he signed his first executive orders, or look at who is in Congress today.

I seriously doubt any ethnic group will be discriminated against in the infrasctructure build-out.

It appears that there will be an attempt to include all of America's wide-ranging population: white males, white females, black males, black females, Asian males, etc., etc.

it's all about populism, buying votes, increasing the power of the state by handing out more checks to more voters. Duh.

If you want to get money to the poorer section of our economy quickly isn't there a faster way than infrastructure? Does anybody know how many folks income is partially...if not fully...dependent upon the CPI figures? Are unemployment checks also CPI adjusted? Wouldn't going back to the Carter methodology of figuring CPI bring up the income by sixty or seventy percent of those receiving money based on CPI figures?

                Fred,
I think your intent is to remind me once again that unless we are considerate of everyone this economic disaster can have very ugly consequences. But just because we open the flood gates of printed paper is no panacea either. Your video clip mentioned some people other than FDR that thought this great plan had appeal. And that is exactly my point, the ITulip infrastructure (build something we can use and improve our future, hey even dish out cash to the less fortunate) plan is acceptable but let the wrong people such as Mr Reich use it for social engineering and we won't be much better off.

Well, maybe they mostly run it, but they also mostly fund it.
