I recommend reading the wiki on monetary measures.

They reference shadowstats and the now and futures website of bart. The basic itulip philosophy is to see the reality of macroeconomic money supply and apply that to investment decision, the fact that M3 (which is the total money supply) has been growing above 10% for years now means that inflation is much higher than is reported, and gold should eventually go higher along with other commodities, etc.
I further recommend going to the housing bust section and reading itulip's housing bust essay, IMO it sums up perfectly how housing has done and how it will proceed to unwind in the future.
