  • How to buy Sugar ( Commodity) as an investment

    Hello,

I'd like to buy sugar and other agricultural commodities to diversify my porfolio. How does one go about doing so? I have no experience and researched but found very little information. Just point me in the right direction, I can do my own research unless you have a strong opinion. I was thinking about buying via TD Ameritrade based on my research so far. And idea? Opinions? Warnings?

How much do you want to invest? (approximately)

If you have enough to cover the purchase of a contract (or contracts) and to cover margin, by the futures and roll them a month prior to expiry.

There are a number of brokers who will allow you to do this (IB, OptionExpress) etc.

    Why sugar?

I'm was thinking of buying monthly. totaling 6 figures maybe. Not sure, maybe half of 6 figures. How much is a typical contract? what's the minimum to get in? Part of the problem is that I don't understand the lingo (roll them a month prior to expiry). I should probably star from scratch. Sugar? I think it's a bargain historically ( Price wise), with few huge producers. climate change, terminator seeds, Something has to give. I'm not interested in trading in and out of positions. I'd like to keep it until I see a huge sell sign and take profits. I'm a long term investor.
