Re: pension: lump sum or payments

when my mother came up to retirement age - at 62 - she was having a hard time with the decision - she didnt really want to stop working, but keeping up with everything was beginning to wear her down and she asked me what i thot - said to her its simple, deah:
if ya wanna keep workin, great - but if the concern is the amount you'll end up collecting from soc-sec, all ya gotta do is run the numbers (she was a bookkeeper/front desk clerk at a local hotel) - so she did - and if she had kept working til 65, she wouldve got a few more bux per month 3 more years out - vs hundreds immed - but as things worked out, she ending up winning 'in the long run' - since she only made it to 75...

not sure exactly what the numbers were, but at least she was happy to be retired and able to survive on soc-sec for as long as she did

am just hoping that i'll get at least as much time as she did, but figger i'll need to chance it and keep going til at least 67 to even have a prayer of having her standard of living.

but - considering korporate amerikas performance lately - i'd second jk's motion: take it and run (to an IRA)
