Ok, scarry stuff. I'm dont think that the gvt has some mass starvation plan ahead, but ... i think they might be stupid enough to do it by accident.
There are 6Bil, people to feed on planet earth. Do our fearless leaders realize that modern agriculture = oil? With no oil there is no food. Let's not drill anywhere, lets not use coal, lets not use nuclear. we can do it with wind and solar! yeah maybe in 20 or 30 years, but in the mean time we play chicken with our food supply. first world nations will probably make it, most of us could handle a doubling or trebaling of our food costs, but 3rd world nations will starve. people in the 3rd world already spend half their income on food.

I looked at the bultic dry today. it is asymtotic up. being an old data modeler, i know that it is very hard to model asymtotic funtions. the most recent reading is at 2004 levels so maybe we all aren't screwed.

The rise up of BDI from 2003 looks like a "bubble" with the eifel tower profile. maybe this is just a reversion to the mean. It will be interseting to watch in the months ahead.
Thanks AudreyGirl i will keep my eye on it.

I don't know about zero rates, I am just a small importer into Australia, so I don't have any leverage in terms of volume. Maybe if you were a large shipper you would get some zero rates if you had people constantly working on it in China.
However our freight rates are now only about 20% of what they were two years ago.
