In this context both are correct. In one case comments is a noun, in the other it's a verb.

    for example,

"Sapiens comments that the FED is a just and deserving repository of US management ingenuity. "

    (think equivaliently, "Sapiens says/claims/opines ... ")

in short form, "Sapiens comments" is correct as the title

"Sapiens' comment is 'the FED is a just and deserving repository of US management ingenuity.' "

I believe he is referring to the improper placement of the possessive apostrophe.

My local YMCA has a giant sign that says "YMCA's around the world"

      Bugs the heck out me.

The name is Sapiens and not Sapien.

See - Singular nouns ending with an "s" or "z" sound

Yes, so Morelia's criticism is appropriate.

It should be Sapiens' or Sapiens's, not, Sapien's.

            Yes.
I've thought about starting an educational thread on the proper usage of its vs it's but did not want to appear pompous. Bug the crap out of me too.
Although with YMCA it's less clear becuase YMCA is an acronym and the apostrophe can indicate the missing bit of 'Association'.
It's Economics vs Thermodynamics. Thermodynamics wins.

We say it all the time. Writing it can bring on the vapors....

And typos! I hate typos. ;)

Kidding. I'm pretty forgiving of typos. What does irritate me though is that I keep seeing people write "loosing" when they mean "losing". If its () just a typo, okay, but if it's a misspelling it's annoying.

Worse, though, is people who refuse to turn left at a signal when there's been a green left-turn arrow that has become a solid green light. As I'm sure all iTulipers know, you're only prohibited from turning at that point if there's a red arrow. Otherwise, it's just like being at regular green light: you pull into the intersection and complete your turn once oncoming traffic has passed. Being stuck behind these heathens makes me apoplectic, especially if I'm in a hurry. It's well past time to open the Driver Training Reeducation Camps.

Shouldn't this thread be in "Rant and Rave"?

It is far more egregious than that - it is supposed to indicate a plural, like, "these are the flags of other facilities in other countries". The board of my local Y has lots of sedentary people with metabolic syndrome and few jocks, you would think some of them could help the staff spell.

Is iTulip a microcosm of the world at large?

All you have to do is send a PM to me and say, "How about fixing the grammatical error in the title of Sapiens' forum?"

When is the last time any of us sent a letter to our elected officials?

                      Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

last September for me, to both my senators and house rep, asking them to vote against the TARP (and from what I understand the letters and calls ran 9 to 1 against the TARP). What did we get from our representatives?
Both senators voted for TARP on first go round; my representative initially voted against it, but on the revote 3 days later, he was one of the 14 or so republicans that changed his vote to Aye and allowed for the bill's passage. A few months later, when TARP recipients were published, I noticed a few small no-name but local finance companies were on the list for having received several $million.

Squeaky wheel gets jack-sh-t from our gov. I believe the term "palm- greaser" may be more appropriate.

grammatical errors are present the world over. they are a trifle; nothing to be ashamed about.

                          > All you have to do is send a PM to me and say,
                          > "How about fixing the grammatical error in the title
                          > of Sapiens' forum?"

doing that would not have generated the discussion, the Wiki reference, or the obligatory funny video.

plus, doing it this way may have learned a few people the perils and pitfalls of the possesive apostrophe.

i don't know how you were educated, but where i come from, mispositioning the ' would've earned me a good whack across the knuckles.

                          > When is the last time any of us sent a letter to our
                          > elected officials?

                          non sequitur.

                          > Squeaky wheel gets the grease.

thank you, and you are welcome. Sapiens' forum looks better already.

but seriously, it didn't occur to me to PM anyone, or post to Rant & Rave. consider me schooled.
