    Re: Dying from Medical Insurance

Stupid question: but GDP figures seem particularly flimsy during large scale military (war) action and also given government spending is in included in GDP. Why should we have any faith in GDP measurement and potential GDP?

Sam, Far from being a stupid question; perhaps it is the most pertinent; what would GDP be if we always delivered the figures without any input from government spending? And, moreover, that would need to include ALL reference to any private company that was working FOR government.

EJ I just watched the youtibe video of out put gap. And the focus on GDP.

        What us GDP?

If I build a bridge, that is a plus to GDP. If the bridge falls down, this is not deducted from GDP, however my wealth would be destroyed.

GDP is just spending it is NOT wealth. GDP calculator has been abused by economists as a measure of growth.

GDP includes the DEBIT of spending, but not the CREDIT of a WRITE OFF.

          Re: Dying from Medical Insurance

its one data point but for the first time i can remember, for next year my portion of health care premiums has not increased since I cannot remember when.
I work for a major U.S. corporation. I had been seeing a 5-10% per year increase. There was an affidavit I had to sign this year questioning if any covered member of my family used tobacco or if a spouse was covered on another plan. If either question was yes the premium increased 20% per check. Maybe the smokers are paying my increase this year??

We will devote an entire article to the task of understanding how it is possible to affect so little GDP growth from a $6 trillion increase in government debt over four years.

The reported annual GDP growth rate since 1929 -- through The Great Depression, WWII, the post-war industrial boom, The Great Inflation, the FIRE Economy boom, the Housing Bubble Recession, and the Output Gap Trap -- averaged 3.23%.

If you take annual CPI from 1929 to 2011, sum it, and divide it by 82, what do you suppose you get as average annual CPI over the same period?

              3.22%

you don't mean sum, do you? don't you mean multiply? don't you want the geometric mean, since it compounds?

                              Sure, FDR Lite !

But forces behind the us Dollar are beyond US policy. Ak what happens in Europe.

Regular euro cash (from ECB printing) to cover SPAIN, is a little large than GREECE, and a little more problem matic. But with German elections in September, you can guess the printing will be done. UNLESS Spain president goes says 'NO'...then USD bull turns into a raging bull market. How can it not !
