For the name I was thinking of LargoWinch, that is until I saw the look on my wife's face

On a more serious note, I am glad to report that after 12 hours of labor my wife gave birth to a 8pound-8oz Boy early this morning, having - lucky us - 10 toes and 10 fingers.

The mom and the baby are doing fine, but no one seems to care about the daddy (except for cigars that is).

Big Congrats, Largo. You will never be the same. Just as our career niche governs to a degree our social outlook, so to does having children. I expect we will see that influence over time in your contributions to the Tulip

Second (boy) was blessedly quiet. Both grew into wonderful kids, now young adults. I give this warning to new parents so they don't feel guilty or disillusioned if their baby seems unhappy. Many have thanked me later. If this is your experience, Largo, hang in there, the rewards will come. If you are one of the lucky ones, with a quiet sleeper who smiles early, all the better.
Congratulations to you and Mrs. Winch. Having children is the most incredible experience I've had. For me, the best ages so far have been between one and three. Their personality really starts to come out and they're really cute. It's just a joy to be with them. But really, it's all good. Enjoy.

your posts from the labor room gave me a smile.
and best to mrs winch and baby winch.

and, don't worry, things will ease up within about 25 years.

My kids are 8 and 10 and I still think they're as cute as ever. Enjoy every moment, Largo!

When my first was born, a friend told me he thought of the first year as "Mom's year". It really proved to be true for my family. The mother-child bond is just more important at that early age, with Dad getting more into it when the walking, talking and playing starts. Don't get me wrong- you're BOTH going to be busier and more exhausted than you've ever been for the first year. But if it seems more magical for your wife than for you, just hold out, because it gets better.
