Two lines I always remember when dealing with our two cats:

1 ) Dogs - these people feed me, shelter me, take care of me; they must be God!
Cats - these people feed me, shelter me, take care of me; I must be God!
2 ) Cats were worshiped as gods in Ancient Egypt. Cats have *never* forgotten this.

Looks like the storm has moved inland and is now hitting Ontario and Quebec. I wonder if my sister's flight, to Florida with connections on the east coast, will be canceled for a third time. I'll find out in a few minutes...
...Well despite the mess of snow, my sister's flight has left without even a delay. Perhaps we have snow tires on our planes that makes the difference. Oh ya, and moving her connection to Chicago. ;P

Oh and I woke up to a foot of snow (and rising), uncleared roads, and nobody was even late for work. Just saying.


btw, looks like this storm will give cover for a third missed Jobs report in a row. Oh well, another month of sunshine, lollipops, and "its because of the weather" excuses.

With March being a great weather wild card, and maybe even April with the way this year is going, we might just get to hear the "weather" mantra for a while yet.

It's not just a mantra, there is some truth to it. The more money that most people spend to heat their homes, the less they have to spend elsewhere. Propane prices are through the roof this season. People on fixed incomes, people that were already living check to check, this winter has been terrible for them. Pellet fuel is nearly impossible to come by in New England. Yesterday I drove 60 miles just to buy ten, 40 lb bags! There is certain satisifcation that comes from heating the home with something non-financialized and non-commoditized. Probably next year pellet fuel futures will be traded in the Chicago pits?

hmm, I guess it's hard to relate. If I total up my Jan/Feb gas bill from last year, I spent $16 more for Jan/Feb this year.

I also spent more for Christmas this year than last year. The only thing that is down in my spending is "entertainment" as my girlfriend this year is much more tame than my girlfriend last year. This unfortunately has been compensated for by a minor fender bender this year.

Ah Ha! There is a weather related expense! However thanks to "Broken window" idiocy, this is actually a huge boon to the economy.

If you think of all the extra overtime for snow plow operators, Hotels from people having their flights cancelled, and hospital staff dealing with all the people slipping and falling; consumer spending should be booming.

I thought disasters are suppose to be good for the economy! XD

well considering all these winter wx 'disasters' happen pretty much EVERY winter, i suspect that we're being setup for MUCH higher energy prices and earlier than usual - esp since gasoline has already jacked up 11% since xmas (in the SLC area, up from a low of 2.85 or so to 3.17-3.25 at the moment)

Screw snow. All it does is disrupt things.

uh huh... i know it may be somewhat counter-intuitive to flatlanders, mr juju - but if you want to see disruption, just watch what happens to produce prices this summer WHEN IT DOESNT SNOW (or continues to NOT very much) in the sierras - since without a big, slow melting snowpack, CA's central valley is going to be in dire straights this summer - altho CO & WY are doing ok, a barren sierra nevada IS going to be a problem, 2nd year and worsening now...
