FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) - The U.S. Department of Homeland Security is holding a workshop in Fayetteville to teach local law enforcement agencies how to handle roadside bombs.

The department's Office of Bombing Prevention will host Tuesday's workshop. Police, sheriff's deputies and other law enforcement agents will learn how to identify the bombs and how to protect against them.

Roadside bombs are the leading killer of troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. Although no roadside bomb attacks have been reported in the U.S., experts say they could be a future threat.

The workshop is part of the IED 2008 Symposium and Expo, an annual meeting held near Fort Bragg to discuss ways to counter the bombs.

Metalman, you stand accused of false advertising. Planting bombs in an intended target's car is an old American tradition

I have been watching this type of action carefully, since I expect these types of action to proliferate with the frustration people will feel when they are confronted with hostile local/municipal governments that do not wish to downsize.

A preliminary example, as a precursor to these types of action:

Pipe bomb found in man's car
Gun, ammunition also discovered after traffic stop

A Russiaville, Ind., man is facing charges of manufacturing a pipe bomb after a Westfield police officer discovered suspicious materials in the man's car early Friday morning.

Just after midnight, Officer Mike Vickroy stopped a 1999 Pontiac traveling north in the 16500 block of U.S. 31 on a suspicion that the driver was operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs, said Police Chief Kevin Jowitt in a news release.

When Vickroy approached the vehicle, Jowitt said the officer noticed a magazine for a rifle and a bullet inside the car. Sgt. Andrew Gilreath also responded to the scene and the driver, William C. Jarvis, 19, allowed officers to search the vehicle.

They found a sawed-off rifle, live firearms cartridges and empty cartridge cases from fired rounds. They also found knives and additional ammunition in the trunk, and what appeared to be a pipe bomb, Jowitt said.

The officers and Jarvis moved away from the car and awaited the arrival of the Indiana State Police bomb squad. Jowitt said bomb technicians disassembled the pipe bomb and determined it did not contain all of the necessary components and could not have detonated.

Members of the bomb squad went to Jarvis' parents' home to check for bombs and did not find any, according to Sgt. Michael Burns of the Indiana State Police.

Jarvis was arrested on preliminary charges of possession of a firearm without a license, a misdemeanor; possession, manufacture, or transport of a destructive device, a Class C felony; and possession of a hoax destructive device, a Class D felony. He was taken to the Hamilton County Jail and was to have an initial hearing Friday afternoon in the magistrate court.

If convicted of both felony charges, he could face an eight-year sentence.

Jowitt said the incident remains under investigation by Westfield Police and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.

"The small items that Officer Vickroy first noticed could have easily been overlooked," Jowitt said. "His observations led to the discovery of some potentially very dangerous weapons. The officer did a great job."

Trunk stuffing was also invented in America. The stuffee usually has his genitals cut off and placed in his mouth before being stuffed in his own Cadillac, the preferred vehicle of stuffees.

An example of this fine American Art:

Bufalino and two other men were acquitted of shooting to death drug dealer Vincent DeNino, 26, of 236 Summer St., Lynn, in February 1984 after a judge suppressed wiretap evidence. DeNino's bullet-riddled body was found in the trunk of a car in a Revere supermarket parking lot after being shot once in the shoulder and four times in the head, allegedly for refusing to pay $10,000 in a cocaine deal.
Revere Beach, Massachusetts is a popular location for trunk stuffing for those interested in picturesque tourist destinations.

                By PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS

According to US government propaganda, terrorist cells are spread throughout America, making it necessary for the government to spy on all Americans and violate most other constitutional protections. Among President Bush’s last words as he left office was the warning that America would soon be struck again by Muslim terrorists.

If America were infected with terrorists, we would not need the government to tell us. We would know it from events. As there are no events, the US government substitutes warnings in order to keep alive the fear that causes the public to accept pointless wars, the infringement of civil liberty, national ID cards, and inconveniences and harassments when they fly.

The most obvious indication that there are no terrorist cells is that not a single neocon has been assassinated.

I do not approve of assassinations, and am ashamed of my country’s government for engaging in political assassination. The US and Israel have set a very bad example for al Qaeda to follow.

                ..

The “war on terror” is a hoax that fronts for American control of oil pipelines, the profits of the military-security complex, the assault on civil liberty by fomenters of a police state, and Israel’s territorial expansion.

                      Rise of Anarchism

The dawning of the 20th century was viewed differently by different people. Some saw the coming of a technological age where people would be freed from the drudgery of manual labor. Others saw the potential for a great shared prosperity through increased international trade. And then there were those who saw a convergence of economic and political forces determined to silence the voice of the individual. For these individuals-a loose affiliation called anarchists-only the complete elimination of the state would pave the way for a more just world. In 1900, the anger and zealotry of several so-called anarchists would lead to bloodshed.

In April, the Prince of Wales, while visiting Brussels, sustained two gunshot wounds from a 16-year-old assailant who claimed to be avenging "...the thousands of men...slaughtered in South Africa." The prince's would-be assassin was later said to be carrying anarchistic literature. Three months later, King Hubert I of Italy was killed by Gaetano Bresci. Bresci, a silk weaver and former resident of Paterson, New Jersey, was also said to be an anarchist. This murder apparently fascinated Leon Czolgosz who lived on a family farm just outside of Canton, Ohio. Family members recounted how Leon poured over the details of the crime every night for weeks. Czolgosz was plotting an anarchistic statement of his own.

In the US, as disputes between labor and management escalated throughout 1900, anarchists were often blamed when tensions erupted into violence. Interestingly, anarchists were mostly anti-union. They had little desire to reform the system. Their preoccupation was with the elimination of the system.

On September 6, 1901 throngs of people crowded to greet President William McKinley as he toured the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. Among those who pressed forward to greet the president was Leon Czolgosz. Czolgosz fired two shots into McKinley. The president died eight days later. Once again, an anarchist emerged from out of the shadows to capture the world's attention.

Google Inc. just made it a bit easier to get that information.

The company today unveiled an upgrade to Google Maps that allows people to track the exact location of friends or family through their mobile devices. Google Latitude not only shows the location of friends, but it can also be used to contact them via SMS, Google Talk or Gmail, said Vic Gundotra, vice president of engineering with Google's mobile team, in a blog post. A beta version of Google Latitude was released more than a year ago.

Why are they always mentally ill ?

One obvious theory to explain the kind of behaviour committed against the American hostages is that it is the product of a non-rational, disturbed or psychotic mind.

This theory receives some support when you look into the psychology of people like Timothy McVeigh who blew up the Government Building in Oklahoma in 1995 killing almost 200 people.

McVeigh could have been considered mentally ill

McVeigh, who bombed the building in revenge for the FBI's Waco raid, thought the army had implanted a computer chip in his buttock to track his movements, according to reports.

There is little doubt McVeigh was suffering from such a severe disturbance of mind he might well be labelled mentally ill.
                          http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/magazine/3699826.stm

On September 6, 1901, Leon Czolgosz, an unemployed factory worker with a history of mental illness, shot US President William McKinley twice during a public speaking event in Buffalo, New York. McKinley was hit in the breastbone and stomach; eight days later, he died.[57] Czolgosz was arrested and interrogated around the clock. Because he was an anarchist and had interacted several times with Goldman, authorities became convinced that she had planned the action. They tracked her to a residence in Chicago she shared with Havel and Abe and Mary Isaak, an anarchist couple.[58][59] Goldman was arrested, along with Abe Isaak, Havel, and ten other anarchists.[60]

Leon Czolgosz insisted that Goldman had not guided his plan to assassinate US President William McKinley, but she was arrested and held for two weeks.

Earlier, Czolgosz had tried but failed to become friends with Goldman and her companions. During a talk in Cleveland, Ohio, Czolgosz had approached Goldman and asked her advice on which books he should read. In July 1901, he had appeared at the Isaak house, asking a series of unusual questions. They assumed he was an infiltrator, like a number of police agents sent to spy on radical groups. They had remained distant from him, and Abe Isaak sent a notice to associates warning of "another spy".[61]

Although Czolgosz repeatedly denied Goldman's involvement, the police held her in close custody, subjecting her to what she called the "third degree".[62] She explained their distrust of him, and it was clear she had not had any significant contact with Czolgosz. No evidence was found linking Goldman to the attack, and she was eventually released after two weeks of detention. Before McKinley died, Goldman offered to provide nursing care, referring to him as "merely a human being".[63] Czolgosz, despite considerable evidence of mental illness, was convicted of murder and executed.[64]

Throughout her detention and after her release, Goldman steadfastly refused to condemn Czolgosz' action, standing virtually alone in doing so. Friends and supporters – including Berkman – urged her to quit his cause. But Goldman defended Czolgosz as a "supersensitive being"[65] and chastised other anarchists for abandoning him.[65] Many newspapers, meanwhile, declared the anarchist movement responsible for the murder.[66] In the wake of these events, socialism gained support over anarchism among US radicals. McKinley's successor Theodore Roosevelt declared his intent to crack down "not only against anarchists, but against all active and passive sympathizers with anarchists".[67]

You may recall this video on August of 2007 in the early days of the crisis that ended with the ominous warning, "Let's pray it works?"

                            Well, it didn't work.

We're already hard at work on a series of videos to be published around the time of the 2010 elections, designed to inform the viewer that, since everything else has played out as if a re-run of the 1920s and 1930s with nauseating predictability, there is a lot at stake because unlike the 1930s, the idiots have nukes, and by idiots I mean, of course, our governments. The series will be our contribution to the pro-peace side of an argument that we expect will be raging within the US polity by that time on the issue of how to deal with growing external threats as the international bickering that started at Davos last week likely escalates into more serious confrontations.

Warning: this will look very much like doomer porn today but, at the rate things are going, we don't think it will by 2010. It is a pre-release version and an experiment, not available on youtube.

Do you think there is a potential for a truly global nuclear war or a regional conflict, like India and Pakistan? One can only hope that if one does occur (let's truly hope not), that it will be regional in nature and will be sufficient to scare the powers-that-be away from any action involving nukes for a long, long time.
